1. What is my password for downloading master list updates? If you are a first time user, your password for downloading updates is the first 8 digits of your product serial #. The serial # can be found on the "Help | About" screen from within the program. You can change your download password at any time by choosing the "File | Download | Change Password" menu from within the program.
2. I get a message saying my software has expired or will expire in <n> days. What does this mean? You must register the software in order to disable the expiration notices. Upon purchase of the software, you will receive a serial # which you must use to register your copy of the software. You should see an icon in your K-Books start menu named "Register" which you should use to register after installing your purchased software.

NOTE: Make sure that the K-Books application is NOT running when you start the registration program. If you have K-Books running, close it before registering.
3. I get an "SQL error" when registering or downloading updates. This error only appears in very early versions of the product. Make sure you are using the latest version by visiting our downloads page. All upgrades are free to registered customers.
4. How do I backup my files? We highly recommend that you backup your database after making significant changes or additions to the arrangement of your books. As with any important document or  file on your PC, you should take care to back them up in a safe place in case the worst happens. If your database files become corrupt and you do not have a backup, you will have to redo all of your books.

Your K-Books database is stored in the "Data" sub-folder on your hard drive under the location that you chose during installation of the program. Usually, this will be "C:\Program Files\K-Books\Data" unless you chose a different location during setup. To backup your database, simply copy this  "Data" folder to a backup location of your choice. This could be another hard drive on your system, a CD (if you have a CD-RW drive), a zip tape drive or even a USB memory stick. Just copy the files to one of these and store it in a safe place.

To restore a backup copy of your database, simply overwrite the "Data" folder on your hard drive with the backup copy.

NOTE: Make sure that K-Books™ is NOT running while you are backing up or restoring the "Data" folder, otherwise, some files may not backup correctly.

5. My computer crashed and I need to re-install the program. How do I do this? Download the latest full installation of the K-Books program from our downloads page and run it. Use the serial # originally provided to you when you purchased the product during installation. If you no longer have your serial #, e-mail k-books@objecticon.com.

Note: Unless you made a backup of your files prior to the system crash (see above), you will have to rebuild your books.
